FKM, Fluorocarbon, Fluoroelastomer (Viton®):

Fluorocarbon and Fluoroelastomers, also known as FKM or Viton® (a registered trade name of Dupont) provide excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemicals, weather and compression set requirements. The relatively high level of fluorine in these materials allow them to offer outstanding resistance to most chemical attacks, but at the cost of limited low temperature capabilities due to brittleness. FKM can however continue to function even with brief intermittent exposure of temperatures of up to +600F, and offers excellent resistance against aromatic hydrocarbons and petroleum fluids.

Temp Range:

  • -40F to + 400F

Common Physical Attributes:

  • Black in color if 75 duro, Brown in color if 90 duro
  • Other colors can be compounded upon volume special request
  • 75 +/- 5 Durometer (hardness rating)
  • 90 +/- 5 Durometer (hardness rating)
  • Excellent tensile strength
  • Good abrasion resistance

Chemical Resistance:

  • Exceptionally resistant to wide variety of chemical environments

Not Recommended for use with:

  • Poor resistance to ethers, ketones, esters, amines
  • Hydraulic fluids based on phosphate esters
  • Low temperature applications
